The Real Agenda
'Globalisation' poses challenges for New Zealand that cannot be captured in yet another brief editorial or op-ed article
on the matter. Many New Zealanders have for years believed we are 'a small but great trading nation.' The truth may be
rather unpalatable: we are certainly small, but with one or two sharp exceptions in some sectors of our economy, we are
a mediocre performer in the globalisation stakes.
Drawing on his experience as NZ's former chief negotiator and Chair of the Agriculture Negotiations, Tim Groser will be
giving you his views on some of the critical trends in the global economy and the risks and opportunities for NZ they
pose for our country.

Until recently, Tim Groser was New Zealand’s Ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Chair of Agricultural
Negotiations for the WTO. Mr Groser was elected to the New Zealand Parliament as a List MP in the 2005 General Election,
and was appointed National’s Spokesman for Arts, Culture and Heritage. Mr Grosser also serves as an Associate Spokesman
for Foreign Affairs and Trade due to his experience in this area.
