Search Continues In Rugged Country
Search teams out again
Fresh searchers join those at Arthurs Pass today in the search for English woman Elizabeth Thomson.
Search Co ordinator Sergeant Tony Tully says that he understands from her sister that she is a positive woman and
searchers are still confident too.
"While it's now been four cold nights, hopes are high if she's managed to get shelter. However we are obviously very
concerned," he says.
NZ Land SAR teams from Oxford and Hanmer join today including two civilian dogs and their handlers. There are two police
dogs which need a break as their paws have been getting a rough time on the harsh terrain, says Tony Tully. Three Police
searchers from Timaru are in the field today, also four Alpine Cliff rescue specialists from Christchurch to search two
areas which are very rugged and dangerous, says Sergeant Tully.
"The country side where we believe she could be is `not nice' search country, with a lot of ravines and gorges."
Ms Thomson's pack including her car keys was found several days ago and she is only believed to have light clothing and
her two cameras.
