Greens' youngest candidate to stand in Mana
Twenty-nine-year-old Nikki Harvey will be the Green Party's candidate in the Mana electorate in the upcoming election, Green Party MP Sue Kedgley says.
"I'm thrilled to have a vibrant young candidate like Nikki to deliver the Green message in Mana," Ms Kedgley says.
A paragliding enthusiast, Nikki is a professional occupational therapist who has worked locally at Porirua Psychiatric Hospital and Mana Community Enterprises Vocational Rehabilitation Centre. Her local activism has included coordinating an Organic Gardens for Health project for the Porirua Union and Community Health Service.
"As an electorate candidate, my aim is to convince as many Mana voters as possible to give their Party Vote to the Greens so we can increase our numbers and influence in Parliament," Ms Harvey says.
The Greens took 7.4 percent of Mana's Party Vote in 2002, better than their 7 percent vote nationally.
Some of the Greens' highest polling booths in 2002 were in Mana, with 26.4 percent at St Peters Church, 17.9 percent at Paekakariki School, 14.9 percent at Raumati Memorial Hall, 13.2 percent at Raumati School, and 11.5 percent and 12 percent in Plimmerton.
