Capill pleads guilty to child sex crimes
Today’s guilty pleas by the disgraced former Christian Heritage party leader and police prosecutor were welcomed by those calling for action to stop sexual violence against children.
Capill pleaded guilty to five sexual charges including one of rape, one of unlawful sexual connection and three counts of indecent assault. The charges relate to two complainants, one of whom was aged five years at the time of offending.
Denise Ritchie of Stop Demand Foundation, a group working to end sexual violence against children, says “While Capill inflicted shocking crimes against his victims including the rape of one, some credit must be given to him for his willingness to admit the crimes, face the consequences and save his victims from the trauma of testifying.”
“Capill’s admissions of guilt serve as a reminder that child sex offenders come from all walks of life and can include highly respected members of society,” says Ritchie.
