A day for halo shinning Parents Centres NZ Inc celebrates international volunteer day
Parents Centre encourages all volunteers to take a bow and shine their halos because without our efforts New Zealand
society would grind to a halt” said Parents Centre Volunteer Support Manager, Joan Hay.
International volunteer day is observed by communities around the world. It is an opportunity to celebrate and honour
the work undertaken by the volunteer workforce, without whom many community groups, school, arts, and sporting
activities, as well as emergency services would not function.
Parents Centres NZ Inc. is working to support and educate parents in being the best they are capable of being. Like
parenting, parent support and education is a voluntary commitment and an integral part of what makes a community
function.
Volunteering for organisations like Parents Centre is about personal satisfaction, and community responsibility. It is
also about making an active contribution to our local community by supporting the most important job of all – parenting.
Parents Centre NZ Inc has been operating in local communities around New Zealand for over 50 years. It arose from a need
in the community to better prepare parents for an active birth and positive early parenting experiences. That need
continues and thanks to our volunteers we are able to satisfy the demand for a range of parenting programmes and support
opportunities.
“Parents Centre NZ Inc. would like to join with all other volunteers in the community in patting ourselves on the back
and commending ourselves for a job well done. Without us there would be no community,” said Mrs Hay
