Tai Tokerau Candidate To Be Confirmed Soon
Potential Maori Party candidates will find out what it will take to represent the Tai Tokerau electorate at the National AGM in Auckland in a couple of weeks (26-28 Nov).
The Tai Tokerau Electorate committee discussed AGM agenda items at their monthly meeting on Saturday (6/11)
Co-chair, Di Grennell says the Maori Party’s interim national council is working hard to present a candidate selection process that is fair, transparent and equitable for all candidate nominations in the country. National delegates will be in Rotorua this weekend (13-14/11) fine-tuning the details.
“There are a number of likely candidates from the Tai Tokerau electorate,” Ms Grennell says. “Hone Harawira has been nominated by his branch in Te Hiku, and the process will ensure that the other branches within the electorate will be fairly represented too.”
The recent Tamihere incident brought co-leader, Pita Sharples’ candidacy for Tamaki forward, however, the interim national council of the Maori Party has not accepted any other nominations to date.
It’s expected that branches will announce candidates for the Maori seats around the New Year, according to Maori Party MP, Tariana Turia.
