Million Dollar Church vs. ‘The Sinners’
Against Conservative Fundamentalism is organising a protest march to oppose the conservative agenda of Destiny Church’s ‘Enough is Enough’ rally. Previously the march was advertised as beginning in Civic Square at 11:30 am. However Destiny Church, despite originally insisting that they were not having a march, have now announced that they will be marching from Civic Square. In light of this ACF have changed the meeting place for the march. We will now meet at Te Aro Park at 11 am.
Against Conservative Fundamentalism spokesperson Rev. Puss Puss Sherbourne says “We realize the playing field isn’t level when we, a grassroots non-profit lobby are playing against a millionaire CEO of a corporate mega TV church like Destiny. However we are very disappointed that they would take advantage of this to hamper our freedom of speech and assembly.”
The march will be a family friendly event and people from all walks of life will be welcomed. “We are making a stand about civil rights,” says Sherbourne, “Enough is Enough is an attack on the rights of queers, women, single parents, sex workers, de facto couples and anyone else who isn’t a Christian fundie nutter.”
Rev. Puss Puss Sherbourne goes on to say, “I don’t want to see the church and state amalgamated again, witch hunts and heretic burnings are so last century. I think Pastor Brian is really just in it for his reward on earth, you know ‘bling bling’. His attempts to appeal to the lowest fears in people shows this, and that includes their sexuality.”
ACF is a cross-political organization. We are not affiliated with any political party or group but strive to protect civil rights of all New Zealanders.
Rally: Te Aro Park at 11 am. 23rd August 2004
