CAP Applaud Alliance stance on water privatisation. See Attachment Laila Harre press statement (Alliance to strengthen privatisation clause).
CAP says "Laila and the Alliance have recognised that contracting or franchising is privatisation and should be outlawed in the Local Government Bill if we are to protect water as a publically owned service. The Alliance are reflecting the public will on this issue, as expressed through tens of thousands of submissions and petitions, through pickets, public meetings and boycotts".
Mererdydd Barrar says "We applaud this principled stand. Although CAP's policy is not to endorse any political party or candidate, we recognise that this policy reflects a sincere commitment to community control of essential services like water. We hope constitiuents especially in Waitakere will take this into consideration when casting their vote at the general election".
Meredydd Barrar (Spokesperson CAP)
