Memo to Dave Moore; Pres ALCP
RE: Cannabis Law Reform Vote
Firstly, thankyou for getting the issue raised. We appreciate all the work you have done for cannabis law-reform and commend the stance your party has taken. However, we have reached a point where we need to set realistic goals in terms of getting pro law reform MPs into Parliament. The simple truth is that the ALCP is unlikely to achieve this.
Norml would like to suggest a solution to the impasse between the ALCP and the Greens with regard to the cannabis vote. The Greens have publicly confirmed that they will bring cannabis to the negotiating table after the election, so why run against them? Surely the ALCP's best play would be to dissolve and join with either Labour or the Alliance in order to bolster support for law reform in those parties.
Yours sincerely,
Mike Harding and Jonathan Rennie
