MASSIVE UNEMPLOYMENT LOOMING
"Massive growth in unemployment," is the prediction of Libertarianz Welfare Deregulation Spokesman Sally O'Brien,
"whatever the outcome of today's govt-business talkfest. While current economic indicators decline rapidly," she
observes, "Helen Clark insists that we switch from deregulation and govt cost cutting to a phase of 'investment and
growth in the economy'. She is dead wrong if she thinks govt is the body to do that."
"The message that needs to be communicated at the business forum today is that more government activity is the last
thing we need. However much you may wish it to be so, it is not govts that grow economies; it is the people who work
productively, and businesses large and small, that create the structural opportunities.
"Growth in the economy is what will provide New Zealanders with opportunities to build prosperity. However keeping our
productive and creative business people shackled with cumbersome, costly bureaucratic obstacle courses, high levies, and
taxation will clearly not do it.
"Taking money from people with productive expertise in the private sector and giving it to Jim Anderton is not the way
to do it. Taking money from working New Zealanders and giving it to non-working New Zealanders to stay home will not do
it. Telling New Zealanders that government will provide for their retirement will not do it.
"The answer is not to wait for government to do something'" says O'Brien. "Instead, New Zealanders need to realize that
prosperity can only be built by getting up and engaging in productive activities themselves. We must get on with it now
as best we can despite the shackles of current government policies. We can't afford to wait until these cloth-cap policy
touters wake up and get out of our way - we must wake up and do it for ourselves!"
