Party Leader Graham Capill is concerned that child safety is being used fraudulently to extract money from individuals
and organisations.
The Christian Heritage Party was contacted by a man in New Plymouth who claimed to be the designer for Kidsafe Review.
He demanded that we sign an authorisation for an advert we were supposed to have asked for. When asked who made the
contract with him, he was unable to tell us. He went on to threaten cancellation fees and the use of Baycorp if we did
not sign the authorisation and pay the $395 + GST for the advert.
Mr Capill said, “Our organisation has placed no such advertisement in His magazine. In fact, the National Library has no
record that the magazine even exists. Our investigation shows that others have had similar problems. The advert he sent
us for authorisation came out of another magazine in which the Party advertises.
“I am appalled that people will use an issue such as child safety, which is of great importance to the welfare of
children, as a way of extracting money illicitly. Apart from being illegal, it is also highly offensive,” Mr Capill
said.
When the Party phoned the number on the fax sent to the National Vice-President, Unigraphics Answering Service could not
put the Party in touch with the designer.
Mr Capill said he would be referring the case to the Association Advertising Agency, which is trying to prevent such
fraudulent advertising.
