Media Release -- Environment
Undeterred by Parliament's refusal to allow his notice of motion yesterday, ACT agriculture and conservation spokesman Gerry Eckhoff has taken his fight for an enquiry into the Alexandra floods to the first meeting this morning of the Commerce select committee.
Mr Eckhoff has written to the select committee pointing out that the Roxburgh dam, built by the state, has silted and that Contact Energy, the new owners of the dam, have said they want the facts relating to liability established.
"Parliament has a duty to examine the issue, given the massive and catastrophic losses suffered by the people of Alexandra," Mr Eckhoff said.
Mr Eckhoff says he will not give up on the issue.
