Te Tawharau leader Tuariki Delamere today confirmed that the party's candidate for the Hauraki electorate would be
Tunuiarangi (Rangi) McLean, a fifteen year Manurewa resident of Tuhoe, Ngati Porou, Waikato and Scottish descent.
Rangi McLean would easily be the outstanding candidate in the race for the Hauraki electorate,” the Hon Tuariki Delamere
said today from Whakatane. “His work in the local community has already been recognised by his election to the Manurewa
Community Board and Manukau City Council committees and he has the confidence of his own Tuhoe people having been
elected to the Tuhoe-Waikaremoana Maori Trust Board.”
Mr McLean who has a Diploma of Business and is in his final year of completing his Master of Business Administration is
currently the manager of the Manukau Peoples Centre. Prior to that Rangi worked for twenty years at Eveready NZ rising
to management as Production Supervisor.
He is well known for his tireless efforts in working with the socially disadvantaged, low income and unemployed sector
throughout South Auckland and being successful in creating employment opportunities for them. With his superb
interpersonal relationship skills he has been able to successfully develop programmes for creating a better
understanding among the diverse cultures that make up South Auckland.
