“Papakura will be making its contribution to keeping the peace in East Timor,” said Hunua MP Warren Kyd.
“Many of New Zealand’s elite corps, the SAS, live in Papakura and the SAS have their battle training unit at Papakura
Military Camp,” said Mr Kyd.
Some 40 SAS members have left for Darwin already and they are expected to be in the first wave of an ANZAC Force unit,
the aim being to take out anyone acting suspiciously.
It is impressive that people from Papakura will be playing such an important role. He expects Papakura will also be well
represented in the infantry company and other troops.
“We all know our troops are likely to be in a risky situation and under fire,” said Mr Kyd.
Mr Kyd has written to the Commanding Officer of the SAS Regiment, on behalf of his constituents, most of whom live in
Papakura, thanking them and wishing him and his men all the best and a safe return.
