Give It A Break George – Bob Simcock

Published: Wed 21 Jul 1999 04:13 PM
Hamilton West MP, Bob Simcock, has called on Labour's Police Spokesperson, George Hawkins, to stop playing crude politics with the Police Service.
George Hawkins has attacked Police Commissioner Doone over an unauthorised commitment to spend $20 million on INCIS.
"George Hawkins has had the same briefings as I have on this subject." Mr Simcock said, "he knows that Commissioner Doone believed that he had the authority to do the deal he did."
"He knows that the Audit Office considered the breach to be more technical than serious".
"He knows that his comment in general was a gross distortion of the facts."
"In capping the potential cost of the project, Commissioner Doone stopped a bad situation from getting worse."
"Give it a break George. You're not helping the Police and I doubt you're even winning votes!" Mr Simcock concluded.
