ACT Won't Let Peters Hold The Country To Ransom

Published: Tue 20 Jul 1999 10:28 AM
In the unlikely event of NZ First returning from the dead to be re-elected to Parliament, ACT will not let Winston Peters hold the country to ransom again, says ACT Leader Richard Prebble.
"It is not possible to form a centre-right government without ACT and we will veto any accommodation with Mr Peters," Mr Prebble said today.
"Winston Peters as Treasurer put New Zealand into a recession. His reckless spending on Maori resulted in a deterioration in race relations.
"ACT would prefer to cause another election than to allow an unprincipled reckless popularist like Peters anywhere near power again.
"We will campaign that a vote for ACT will keep Winston Peters out of office," Mr Prebble said.
