TVNZ behaviour abhorrent - Prebble

Published: Mon 19 Jul 1999 03:09 PM
ACT is to lodge another formal complaint over behaviour by the state broadcaster TVNZ.
ACT Leader Richard Prebble lodged a complaint shortly after TVNZ screened footage of the PM and her advisors which had been obtained by filming secretly through the Beehive windows from outside the building.
TVNZ responded to Mr Prebble's complaint saying they are conducting an inquiry into the incident. But meanwhile the original footage is being used in other TVNZ programmes.
Mr Prebble says TVNZ is flouting the complaints process and advertising their own lack of standards in continuing to use the footage.
"The British Press Council has ruled that distance filming of people without their consent, in situations where they have the expectation of privacy, is completely unacceptable. This paparazzi-type behaviour should also be abhorrent to all NZ media," Mr Prebble said.
