Home Invasion Legislation
"The introduction of the home invasion legislation reflects New Zealanders views that their homes are their
sanctuaries," said Minister for Courts, Georgina te Heuheu today.
"If someone commits a violent crime in another's home when they shouldn't be there, then they can expect to go to prison
for longer."
"The law change tells the courts that the people of New Zealand consider their homes to be their sanctuary, it is their
place of peace and if criminals destroy that peace, then they can expect their justice system will punish them for doing
so," Mrs te Heuheu said.
"The public, the police and victims all support putting home-invaders away for longer.
"This Government has delivered the legislation to do just that," the Minister concluded.
