Green Party mourns passing of Talei Morrison
Ka iri te kapua pōuri ki runga i Ōhinemutu, Te Arawa waka.
He pou whakarae o Te Mātārae i Ōrehu, he kaikōkiri kaupapa hauora, he wāhine toa.
E heke ana ngā roimata mō te wāhine kua hinga nei.
The Green Party was saddened to learn yesterday of the passing of kapa haka veteran and Smear Your Mea campaign founder Talei Morrison.
“It is with great sadness that I extend the Green Party’s condolences to the whānau of Talei Morrison at this incredibly hard time,” said Green Party Co-leader Marama Davidson.
“I attended the Tāmaki Makaurau Kapa Haka Regionals yesterday, and group after group paid tribute to Talei as a star kapa haka performer and wāhine toa.
“When diagnosed with cervical cancer, Talei founded the Smear Your Mea awareness campaign to help other wāhine who have and will be diagnosed with cervical cancer.
“I’m sure Talei’s awareness raising work has already encouraged more and more wāhine Māori and women from all backgrounds to get cervical smear tests. It’s up to all of us to continue that work.
“Talei’s extraordinary service to her people is a testament to who she was, and her whānau, hapū and iwi will be incredibly proud,” said Ms Davidson.
