The Green Party is tomorrow launching a new initiative to support the revitalisation of te reo Māori.
“Despite huge progress over recent decades, the survival of te reo Māori is still not assured,” said Green Party Māori development spokesperson Marama Davidson.
“In 2013, only 3.7 percent of New Zealanders spoke te reo Māori and the percentage of Māori who can hold a conversation about everyday things in te reo Māori has decreased by 4.8 percent since 2006.
“We have a responsibility to ensure that our indigenous language not just survives, but thrives in Aotearoa.
“I’m very excited and very proud that the Green Party is launching an initiative to help make that happen,” said Ms Davidson.
