Minister opens Kauri Healthcare Medical Centre
Health Minister Jonathan Coleman has officially opened the new $10 million integrated family healthcare centre in Palmerston North.
“This new healthcare centre will deliver the integrated care that the local community in Palmerston North needs,” says Dr Coleman.
“It’s important that all New Zealanders can access timely and high quality healthcare closer to home, that’s a key focus of the refreshed New Zealand Health Strategy.
“It’s great to see Kauri Healthcare putting a focus on maintaining a high quality workforce, and creating a practice that will help to attract, recruit and train GPs and nurses in a location where hospital and community health providers can link in more easily with general practice.”
Kauri Healthcare is the result of the merger of three existing general practices in Palmerston North.
With around 60 staff members including GPs, nurses, long term conditions nurses, health care assistants and administrative staff, the medical centre services an enrolled population of around 17,500 patients.
As well as general practice, Kauri Healthcare provides a wide range of services, including nurse-led long term condition management, a sleep clinic, and minor surgery.
