Latest health target results – Wairarapa
Health Minister Jonathan Coleman says the latest health targets results show the gains made in the previous quarter have
again been largely maintained in Wairarapa DHB.
“The health targets are important as they drive performance across the health system, ensuring that New Zealanders get
better access to key health services,” says Dr Coleman.
“The latest quarterly results for April to June 2016 show that the progress made in the previous quarter has largely
been sustained.
“These results are a credit to the health professionals in Wairarapa DHB.
“The improved access to elective surgery target has again been achieved, Wairarapa DHB surpassed the target by four per
cent. Delivering more elective surgery remains a key Government priority – the only answer to increased demand is to do
more.
“This is the last quarter that the more heart and diabetes checks target will be reported as it’s been replaced by the
new childhood obesity health target.
“The more heart and diabetes checks target, which was again met this quarter, will remain an accountability measure for
DHBs to ensure the gains made are not lost. Wairarapa DHB achieved 91 per cent.
“Wairarapa DHB also met the shorter stays in ED target, and immunisation coverage for eight month olds. Further progress
is needed on faster cancer treatment and better help for smokers to quit targets.”
These results are supported by the $29 million funding increase Wairarapa DHB has received over the last eight years.
Wairarapa DHB will receive an extra $3 million in new money this year, taking the DHB’s total funding to $139 million
for 2016/17.
