MPs refuse to debate tougher burglary laws

ACT Leader David Seymour is disappointed that other members of parliament objected to his party’s Three Strikes for
Burglary Bill.
“Parliament will now debate the Home and Community Support (Payment for Travel Between Clients) Settlement Bill instead
of the much more urgent need to ensure anybody who commits three burglaries goes to jail for three years.
“Members objected to the Bill being debated despite reports this morning that fewer than 10 per cent of burglaries are
resolved – and that’s just the reported ones.
“I have visited people in my electorate where the occupant has been burgled three times. I suspect my parliamentary
colleagues are not aware burglary is more than taking your stuff, it is invasive and traumatises people.
“I will continue seeking ways to get Three Strikes for Burglary on the agenda as people should not have to tolerate
recidivist burglars.”
