ACT trying to have it both ways on zoning
ACT Party candidate David Seymour’s campaign against changes to school zones in the Epsom electorate looks hollow given
his party’s commitment to the abolition of school zoning altogether, Labour’s Education spokesperson Chris Hipkins says.
“It’s disingenuous for David Seymour to argue against changes that would impact on Auckland Grammar and Epsom Girls
Grammar School when, if his party had their way, there would be no zones at all.
“David Seymour is the ACT Party’s lifeline back into Parliament. It’s ironic that he is trying to beat the school zoning
drum in order to get his party back into Parliament so that they can advocate for the removal of school zones
completely.
“The Labour Party remains committed to ensuring that children have the right to attend their local school. That’s why we
re-introduced school enrolment schemes and that’s why we will fight any plans by a National/ACT government to remove
them,” Chris Hipkins says.
