Statement on the Coroner's report into the death of Able Seaman Byron Solomon
"I met with the family of Byron Solomon at the time of his death and once again I would like to express to them my deep regret and sincere sympathy for their terrible loss," said Phil Goff.
"Safety is always of paramount concern. No government would knowingly agree to put a vessel into service if there were safety concerns. Ministers have to rely on the advice of those who have the technical expertise and knowledge necessary to determine whether a vessel is certified as safe and fit for service."
