Hands off our water
The Local Government Act 2002 Amendment Bill tabled today in Parliament will effectively privatise all aspects of water supply services, the Green Party said today.
"Rodney Hide’s new Local Government Amendment bill should be entitled ‘Rogernomics Part 2," Green Party Local Government spokesperson Sue Kedgley said.
"Giving private companies operating rights for 35 years is privatisation by another name. It paves the way for these important assets which have been built up over generations to be flogged off.
"Any further reduction in the involvement of communities in controlling crucial infrastructure, such as water, should ring alarm bells. Especially when we know that Rodney Hide's stated agenda is to corporatise and privatise as much of local government as possible," Ms Kedgley said.
