Lynne Pillay MP confirms she will stand down in 2011
Following the recent announcement that Lynne Pillay MP would not be putting herself forward to be the Waitakere Labour
candidate for 2011, the MP wanted to acknowledge the support from the electorate she has served.
“I have decided to retire as an MP at the end of this parliamentary term in 2011 for family reasons, so I can spend more
time with my partner and family, especially our lovely grandchildren,” Lynne Pillay said.
“I want to thank the people of Waitakere. It is a privilege to work with the community and Waitakere City Council on
various projects including the Waitakere Ranges Heritage Area Act and I am enjoying my roles as Labour’s Disability
Issues and Victims Rights spokesperson.
“This is not a farewell statement as I am committed to continuing this important work until the next election.
“I know that many talented Labour people will put their name forward for selection as the candidate for Waitakere in the
next election.
“This is an exciting time for Labour supporters in Waitakere and I am looking forward to working with the new Labour
candidate to return a Labour MP to Waitakere and a Labour-led government to New Zealand,” Lynne Pillay said.
