Anderton reveals Labour’s desperation
Jim Anderton has today revealed Labour’s desperation by indicating that Helen Clark is only prepared to call the election for the last possible day in November, says National’s Shadow Leader of the House, Gerry Brownlee.
“Speaking on Agenda, Mr Anderton indicated the General Election was still 12 to 13 weeks away.
“Apart from his rather dubious maths, what he’s saying is that the date is going to be November 15 – the last possible day an election can be called for.
“Mr Anderton has let the cat out of the bag. Helen Clark should now confirm whether her third-ranked Cabinet Minister is right, and that we face an election on the last possible date it can be held.
“Perhaps the Leader of the House, Michael Cullen, can also explain why it is he needs to put Parliament into urgency next week when we still have weeks and weeks of the Labour Government left to run.
“Why the need for urgency when Labour is preparing to grimly hold onto power until the last possible minute?”
