Greens applaud victory of commonsense
The Green Party is absolutely delighted that the Government has chosen to put broader national interests ahead of short-term profits, and retain Auckland airport in New Zealand ownership, Green Party Associate Transport Spokesperson Sue Kedgley says.
"Auckland airport is a key strategic asset and New Zealand could not afford the economic, environmental, biosecurity or security risks of allowing control of our main aviation gateway to pass into foreign hands.
"It would have been absurd to allow yet another of our key strategic assets to slip out of our grasp into foreign ownership, and I am very pleased that the Government has finally woken up to that fact."
The Green Party wants the Government to follow up this decision by issuing a clear list of key strategic assets that it does not believe should be sold into foreign ownership.
