Daylight saving petition - one week to go!
The daylight saving petition of Nelson City Councillor Mark Holmes and United Future leader Peter Dunne has only one week to go!
"Importantly for those people who have yet to sign it, there is still time before the petition closes in a week. Forms need to be signed and sent to Cr. Holmes by 28 February so that we can collate them and present them to Parliament in mid-March," said Mr Dunne.
The premise of the petition is to provide three extra weeks of extended daylight in the evenings. The three extra weeks are split so that the period of daylight saving begins a week earlier than it does now and finishes two weeks later.
"The petition that we launched last October has already received a great deal of support from people all over the country. The last tally showed that we have collected over 15 000 signatures which is a great result so far. We are hoping for a real influx of completed forms as the due date of 28 February gets closer.
"I would encourage anybody who is interested to download a form, collect signatures from their family, friends and colleagues and send it back to Cr. Holmes."
The petition forms have been distributed around Nelson and among interested groups nationwide. It is also downloadable off the United Future website at www.unitedfuture.org.nz or through Mark Holmes at mark.holmes@ncc.govt.nz.
