Why are we waiting, Prime Minister?
Helen Clark’s comment that the actions of her MP Taito Phillip Field were unethical shows that she should act and sack him now, says National Party Leader John Key.
She told Radio NZ that the MP’s behaviour was ‘at the least unethical’ and the issue now will be whether it is ‘illegal as well as unethical’.
“Her comments show she is only now belatedly accepting what everyone else in New Zealand has known for months,” says Mr Key.
“She should act now over Mr Field. Why are we waiting, Prime Minister?
“Mr Field has been on indefinite leave from Parliament while police investigate the allegations against him.
“Taxpayers won’t be thrilled to know that they will continue to pay Mr Field’s salary well into the new year - because Helen Clark cynically sits on her hands and does nothing.
“Helen Clark is clearly only interested in protecting her slim majority in Parliament.
“She is apportioning blame for this mess, but the fact is that she should accept personal responsibility for setting up an inquiry costing half a million dollars that did not have the power to do its job properly.”
