Prof Fawzi Laswad reappointed to ASRB
Commerce Minister Lianne Dalziel has announced the reappointment of Professor Fawzi Laswad as a member of the Accounting
Standards Review Board for a second term of three years commencing 17 February 2007.
Professor Laswad brings his academic, research and professional body association knowledge and perspectives to the
ASRB’s deliberations. He is the Head of the School of Accountancy at Massey University’s three campuses (Palmerston
North, Auckland and Wellington) and previously worked at both Lincoln and Victoria universities. He is involved in many
professional activities through the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has also served as president (NZ)
of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand. His research has a particular focus on financial
reporting.
Background to Accounting Standards Review Board (ASRB)
The ASRB, established under the Financial Reporting Act 1993, is an independent Crown entity. Its main function is to
review and, if it thinks fit, approve any financial reporting standard or amendment submitted to it. The Act is

The ASRB consists of not less than four and not more than seven members appointed by the Governor-General on the
recommendation of the Minister of Commerce. When considering appointments, the Act requires the responsible Minister to
recommend candidates who have knowledge of, or experience in, business, accounting, finance, economics or law.
