Kiwi Butter Better
New Zealand First says that advertising campaigns in Europe aimed at undermining New Zealand’s exports must be neutralised by giving consumers good reasons to keep buying our products.
“A recent campaign by a British dairy company deriding our butter for the distance it travels is obviously focused on getting consumers to buy a local brand,” said Primary Production and Agriculture spokesperson Doug Woolerton.
“As with most advertising, it only tells part of the story. Most consumers are intelligent enough to see that, and will continue to go for quality, but it’s up to us to ensure that such ideas don’t start to take a hold.
“We need to respond by highlighting the quality of the product, and the pristine environment in which our goods are produced
“Export Year 2007 presents an opportunity to strengthen our traditional export products and markets, as well as explore new ones. We need to be smart and savvy, and capitalise on our pure image when it comes to marketing our goods overseas,” said Mr Woolerton.
