Waste bill for Waste Bill huge
The waste bill arising from Nandor Tanzcos’s Waste Bill will cost New Zealand hundreds of millions of dollars, says National’s Environment spokesman, Nick Smith.
“This ridiculous bill will waste time, money, paper and energy,” says Dr Smith.
“It is crazy to require every business and organisation in New Zealand to have to write a detailed waste management plan and get it approved by councils.
“This amounts to more than 200,000 plans and will require an army of bureaucrats to administer.
“The requirement in this bill to display an A3 poster containing recycling and disposal information on every product sold means that for the average supermarket with 16,000 products a 6.6 kilometre-long posterboard will be required to comply.
“National says the key to reducing waste is ensuring people pay the full cost of waste, not a Soviet-style bureaucracy of national, district and organisation waste plans.
“I am astonished that Labour voted for this politically correct garbage.
“It makes a joke of any commitment by this Government to reduce compliance costs,” says Dr Smith.
