National’s postcard hammers home tax message
A postcard driving home the tax cut message will be delivered to New Zealand homes this week, says National Party Leader
Don Brash.
About 760,000 postcards have been printed and will go into homes and private boxes in metropolitan Auckland, Hamilton,
Wellington and Christchurch this week.
“They highlight how a National government would encourage initiative – through tax cuts – at the same time as providing
the first class public services we all want.
“National would return some of the $9 billion in surplus taxes collected by the Labour Government this year to the
people who actually earned it. That money should never have been taken off them in the first place
“The message we want to deliver to New Zealanders is that sensible tax cuts create wealth – which creates more jobs.
“We would borrow wisely to help pay for roads and other big projects. Households do the same. Few families pay for large
items – like their house for example – out of cash.
“It’s this Labour Government that is insisting on paying for absolutely everything - roads, schools and prisons - out of
the cash it’s taking from taxpayers now.
“National would reprioritise, but it would not mean cuts to health and education services. The issue is getting better
value for taxpayers’ money.
“Michael Cullen’s Bondi Budget flopped. It failed to offer tax cuts in the face not only of a flight of skilled Kiwis
across the Tasman, but the demands of the public here.”
The postcards cost $90,000 to print and distribute, and are funded from the Leader’s Budget, an annual allocation from
Parliamentary Service.
