Decision protects public access around Bayswater Marina

Conservation Minister Chris Carter has decided that a 15-metre strip will safeguard public access around the Bayswater
Marina reclamation.
The local authority, North Shore City Council, is welcoming the announcement as a great outcome for the community and
the environment.
Mayor George Wood says the public access strip is a wonderful asset for locals and visitors alike who cherish access to
the coastline.
“This is an important coastal area with high recreational value and the public interest is now properly protected,” he
says.
Chris Carter has agreed to lease a 3.34ha reclamation at Bayswater Pt in North Shore City to Bayswater Marina
Developments Ltd, the company which operates the 430-berth marina.
Mr Carter says his decision to opt for a 15-metre public access strip along the reclaimed land was in response to
concerns that the public’s current ability to access the entire reclamation may be hampered by potential development in
the future.
“I wanted to ensure that the public access strip was wide enough to enable the public to carry out a broad range of
recreational activities, and I believe a 15 metre strip will achieve that," he says.
