A further round of misleading pamphlets, seemingly funded by the Exclusive Brethren, are to be delivered in the next few days, and raise more questions that Don Brash needs to answer, Labour MP Pete Hodgson said today.
"Someone is clearly helping the Exclusive Brethren in the preparation of these pamphlets. We know that Don Brash has met with them up to four times in the last eighteen months, and as recently as a few weeks ago. Brash needs to front up once and for all, and tell us what was discussed at these meetings," said Pete Hodgson
The new pamphlets include one that repeats many of Don Brash's campaign themes. Another invokes the All Blacks to press the case for tax cuts, a further health pamphlet misrepresents the waiting times for surgery and the anti Green pamphlet has been reproduced in a new form.
"The content of the pamphlets is such that any reasonable person would conclude they are the result of discussions with the National Party. Don Brash admitted last week that the Exclusive Brethren had told him they would not mention the National Party in the pamphlets, what did they tell him about what was going to be in them?
"It should be remembered that the names of those authorising these pamphlets are not the people who held a media conference last week to announce they were funding the campaign. This pamphlet campaign is shrouded in distortions and misleading statements, and Don Brash remains at the centre of them.
"Don Brash must front up and fully explain his discussions with this extreme sect, and what the real nature of the relationship between the National Party and the Exclusive Brethren is," Pete Hodgson said.
