ACT Leader Rodney Hide today said it was a sick joke that Labour had released a "defence policy" when its entire strategy has been to render New Zealand defenceless.
"The only promise we've had from National is to review Labour's defence policy. What they should be doing is reversing it.
"We need to double defence spending, provide a balanced defence force - including a combat air wing, and restore relations with our traditional allies, the United States and Australia.
"Helen Clark's contribution has been to take the force out of air force," Mr Hide said.
