Green Party launches virtual campaign
In what is believed to be a first for New Zealand political parties the Green Party has pushed the boundaries in campaign communication with the launch of a multimedia manifesto.
Co-Leader Rod Donald and Information Technology Spokesperson Nandor Tanczos launched the CD-Rom, entitled GreenSpin, at a cafe in Ponsonby, Auckland this afternoon.
"The CD-Rom sets a new standard in political party communication through video clips, music and text. It gets across the Green vision for New Zealand and highlights our bold policies and our great team of candidates," Mr Donald says.
It opens with an emotional audiovisual message that 'time is running out', with music from the track of the same name by Unity Pacific from their critically acclaimed debut album From Street to Sky.
The CD-Rom also has video interviews with the Greens' eight returning MPs, music tracks by Nandor Tanczos and Metiria Turei, as well as policy highlights, candidate information, the campaign billboards and much more.
"In 1975 the Values Party set a new standard for political party manifestos with its 90-page publication with a full colour cover that was sold in book shops. We have now eclipsed that cutting-edge initiative with this 21st Century equivalent," Mr Donald says.
Nandor says that once again this demonstrates that the Greens are the most innovative, creative and technologically literate of the political parties.
"We have demonstrated this repeatedly by having the best and most informative website and running one of New Zealand's most popular political blogs. The Greens are also the only party to have a series of music CD compilations," he says.
"It never ceases to amaze me when MPs, who barely know how to use a computer, accuse us of being Luddites. Clearly we are the most techno-savvy party."
