Use $500 million dollars to prepare for end of cheap oil - Greens
The Green Party wants the bulk of a half billion dollar transport injection used to prepare for the end of cheap oil.
"It's vital that we don't just pour this money into endless motorways - as the National Party would do if it had its way," Green Party Co-Leader Jeanette Fitzsimons says
"As fuel prices rise and climate change bites it is imperative that New Zealanders have a viable alternative to turn to.
"We need to ensure that our public transport network and rail system is adequate for the inevitable rise in demand that will happen when using the family car becomes unaffordable.
"This is a half billion opportunity to invest in our future. The Green Party hopes it is not frittered away on roading projects that will soon become white elephants," Ms Fitzsimons says.
