Helen Clark’s panic attack
National Party leader Don Brash says Helen Clark’s comments on Tim Groser are “playing petty politics with New Zealand’s
future.”
“At one moment the Government is saying it is essential for Tim Groser to continue as chairman of the WTO’s agriculture
negotiations committee and in the next breath Helen Clark is saying the opposite, saying Mr Groser does not have the
confidence of the Labour Government.
“It is insane to throw aside the bipartisan nature of New Zealand trade policy like this,” Dr Brash says.
“Helen Clark should put the national interest ahead of petty party politics, just as National is prepared to do.
“There are billions of dollars at stake in this.
“This is the most extraordinary panic attack by Helen Clark which would have been against the advice of key officials. I
would urge Helen Clark to reflect on the implications for New Zealand’s trade future.”
Dr Brash reiterated that National would allow Mr Groser indefinite leave to continue the vital trade talks till the end
of the year.
