John Maurice to campaign for Progressive Party Vote in Kaikoura
John Maurice has been named as the Progressive Party candidate in this year’s general election, the party’s deputy
leader Hon. Matt Robson said this evening.
“I’m really pleased to announce that John Maurice will carry the Progressive banner this election. John has been driving
trains for over 31 years between Christchurch and Kaikoura, 27 of them from the Picton end. This is a man who knows the
Kaikoura electorate like the back of his hand,” Matt Robson said in Blenheim.
“John is one of those candidates who is going to really be noticed in this campaign because his enthusiasm for the
universal values that Progressive stands for is really infecting the whole campaign committee and his whole family is
getting in behind,” Matt Robson said.
“In Kaikoura, Brendon Burns may well make a great electorate MP, but John is asking Kaikoura voters to give their party
vote to Progressive.
“John wants your party vote so that we can deliver an historic third term Labour-led progressive coalition government
that is strongly pro-regional development, will take the tough decisions on youth binge drinking and other youth drug
problems, will invest more in tertiary students and will promote pro-jobs policies like a cut to the company tax rate,”
Matt Robson said.
The Progressive Party is the junior partner in the coalition government first elected in 1999. Its leader, Jim Anderton,
is the third ranked Cabinet Minister with responsibility for Economic, Industry and Regional Development, chairing the
Ministerial Committee on Drug Policy, Forestry and the Public Trust Office.
