Waitaki Board Way To Go
New Zealand First says that it is pleasing that members of the Waitaki Catchment Water Allocation Board were named today.
“As the only party that consistently campaigned for the Waitaki River legislation to proceed, New Zealand First is satisfied that commonsense prevailed, and that the complex and difficult task of formulating a regional plan for the allocation of water can now begin,” said environment spokesperson Jim Peters.
“The board’s development of a regional plan will take into account the ‘intrinsic values and amenity values’ which should be sustained in the Waitaki River and associated margins, and will determine ‘the allocation of water to activities as appropriate.’
“The importance of river knowledge and water management from the time rain falls in our catchments and enters our rivers and lakes is vital in securing our recreational, farming and business future,” said Mr Peters.
