Baldock: NZ fishers betrayed by Greens, ACT and ‘Ashraf’ Peters
The Greens, ACT and NZ First this evening betrayed New Zealand’s recreational fishers, United Future’s Larry Baldock
said after his SOP to withdraw kahawai from the Quota Management System, under the Fisheries No3 Amendment Bill, was
voted down in Parliament.
“We have a Green Party voting against its own policy that opposes purse seine fishing - surely the only Green party
anywhere in the world to display such utter hypocrisy.
“We had ACT yet again bound up in its extraordinarily narrow world view and putting big business ahead of your average
New Zealander - refusing to see that both have valid concerns.
“Only Winston was true to form in leading his MPs in abstaining. Old Ashraf Peters proved yet again that he is the least
trustworthy politician in the land.
“He made a liar of himself by refusing to stand by his promises to the recent national recreational fishing conference
where he clearly stated that kahawai shouldn’t go into the QMS, there should be no purse seining and the whole idea was
just nonsense from the Ministry of Fisheries.
“New Zealanders who treasure their outdoor heritage will remember all of this at the next election.”
