Anderton Should Front Up Now With The Infrastructure Report
''Mr Anderton announced today what many of us have known and been saying for years, that an audit into our country’s key infrastructure shows that there needs to be substantial spending to ensure systems can cope,'' said New Zealand First transport spokesperson, Peter Brown.
“Perhaps I should compliment Mr Anderton on his honesty – but where has he been?
“It has been painfully obvious, for example, that our roading has not kept pace with traffic volumes or vehicle type.
Mr Anderton and his colleagues have bought into the argument that public transport, walking and cycling are the cure for all our transport woes. They are important, particularly public transport, but are certainly not the ‘cure-all’ that some would have us believe.
“I believe that Mr Anderton should urgently make the report public so that all New Zealanders are aware of the problems – not wait till after the Budget when it will be too late for another year to influence Government spending,” said Mr Brown.
