Parole Board Also Guilty In Isherwood Case - Mark
New Zealand First law and order spokesperson Ron Mark says the Parole Board that freed sexual predator Gary Maui
Isherwood and let him attack another victim should also be held to account for his offending.
A High Court jury in Christchurch on Friday found Isherwood guilty of kidnapping, stupefying, unlawful sexual
connection and rape. The victim was an 18 year old woman.
The offences took place a few days after Isherwood had been released on parole after being jailed for similar offences.
“This individual is an habitual sexual predator and has no place in a decent society,” Mr Mark said.
“It is obvious that after having already been in prison for a previous crime of a similar nature, this despicable
individual has learnt nothing at all, and in my view is incapable of regret, remorse or of ever being trusted again.
“It also causes me great concern that the Parole Board ever considered giving this chronic sex offender another chance,
as it did on the last occasion when it granted him an early release for a similar crime.
”To have him prey on a young woman in the same disgusting manner within just days of his early release back into
society, establishes that he is a deviant, without hope of rehabilitation,” said Mr Mark.
“Members of the Parole Board who unleashed this monster back into society, believing him to be worthy of another chance,
should be held personally accountable in this instance.
“They should be sacked and replaced with people who will take into account the effects of releasing dangerous criminals
to prey on the rest of society,” concluded Mr Mark.
