New Zealand First Sharpens Attack
New Zealand First will begin the New Year with a sharpened focus following a reshuffle of caucus responsibilities.
The changes announced by leader Winston Peters include the transfer of the Social Services portfolio to Bill Gudgeon, Environment to Jim Peters, Health to Barbara Stewart, Maori Affairs to Pita Parone, and Housing to Brent Catchpole.
“New Zealand First will continue to pressure the government into fixing New Zealand’s immigration policy, curbing the excesses of the Treaty grievance industry, and making real inroads into the violence and lawlessness in our society.
“We are issuing a warning to Labour that they can expect more real opposition against its political tyranny. New Zealand First will continue to campaign for a more direct democracy and for the use of binding citizens’ referenda,” said Mr. Peters.
“We will also maintain our attack on the fiscal and monetary policies and the lack of vision of the current administration that sees the gaps widening between the haves and have-nots, an escalating current account deficit, lack of real incentive to exporters, increasing red tape and compliance costs, and a polls-driven programme that is delaying the rebuilding of the country’s infrastructure and providing no platform for future productive as opposed to consumptive growth and development.
“The peculiarly bent, politically correct social agenda of this government will be increasingly scrutinised as will be the underperformance of the state health and education sectors.
“New Zealand First will continue to lead the debate on the important issues confronting our society – that is our New Year’s resolution,” said Mr. Peters.
