Labour Fears Direct Democracy
New Zealand First says Helen Clark has insulted the intelligence of New Zealanders by suggesting that they cannot be
trusted with binding Citizens Initiated Referenda.
Rt Hon Winston Peters today challenged the Prime Minister to seek the opinion of voters on CIR by holding a binding
referendum on the issue instead of consulting the mirror on her bathroom wall.
“The idea of giving the people a say on major issues fills the Prime Minister and her political coven with dismay
because they know most people oppose Labour’s agenda to transform New Zealand into a politically correct, gender bent,
lawless, Third World republic.
“We trust the commonsense of ordinary people more than the cultural commissars and ethnic engineers in the Labour Party.
Helen Clark obviously believes that the people are not capable of making decisions on the major issues facing their
country such as: The foreshore and seabed;
Abolishing the Privy Council as a final Court of Appeal;
Legalising prostitution;
Gender bending legislation in which women become fathers;
The release of genetically modified organisms into the ecosystem;
Killers, drug dealers and rapists on home detention;
Closing hundreds of schools;
Political representation based on race;
The Treaty of Waitangi industry;
Mass immigration;
Sale of state assets;
Speculation in large tracts of farmland, lakesides, coastline and high country;
Road tolls on public roads already built and paid for.”
“Democracy is dying under Labour but New Zealand First will breathe new life into it at the next election,” said Winston
Peters.
