National goes house to house on beaches issue
The National Party is expanding on its One Standard of Citizenship campaign with a postcard drop to householders canvassing the beaches and seabed issue.
"Over the next month or so, the National Party will be distributing some 600,000 postcards to homes throughout New Zealand," says National Party Leader Bill English.
The postcards read: "No Deals! The Beaches Belong To Everyone", and they cost about $15,000 to produce.
"The campaign backs up the National Party www.beachesforall.co.nz petition which has now been signed by more than 63,000 people since it was launched just over two weeks ago.
"The National Party is adamant that title to the beaches and seabed rests exclusively with the Crown.
"The Government has opened a leadership vacuum that has so far allowed a tide of 34 claims to wash up on the doorstep of the Maori Land Court.
"There is now an increasingly urgent need to clear up the role of the Land Court in awarding title.
"How far will the Government let the 34 active claims go before it finally decides to take action?
"Will Helen Clark place a veto on Maori Land Court discussions covering the beaches and seabed issue until then?
"The Government has been far too busy solving its own internal feuds to consider how important the beaches and seabed are to all New Zealanders," Mr English says.
