New era on agenda for National Party
This weekend the National Party is to consider critical changes to its constitution.
"The National Party's delivering on the promise to review its structure after the last election," says the National
Party President Judy Kirk.
Party delegates from throughout the country are due to vote on a range of issues at the National Party's Special
Conference in Wellington on Saturday.
"We want to give more support and strength to our electorates by unifying the administration and leadership of the Party
organisation," says Mrs Kirk. "After extensive consultation we've discovered that National members want to see the
party's goals and principles simplified, so the public and members always know what the National Party stands for.
"There're also proposals to change the governance of the Party replacing the National Management Board with a Board of
Directors and streamlining other internal processes," she says.
"What's important for the membership is that we're looking to reward their commitment with input to policy where-ever
possible.
"We want to build a Party that will place National in a position to win the next election and we want to take our
membership along with us," Mrs Kirk says.
When the party's constitution is overhauled, it'll be the most significant change to the document in 67 years.
